I often visit some websites posting pinoy movies on-line. Luckily, this movie was on priority play list of the site. Without second thought, I clicked the link and started watching a horror fiction film uploaded few months ago which is spine tingling and thrill-seeking.

It's a story of a Conan (Vhong Navarro) who is madly in love with Ellen (Bangs Garcia) and is willing to take the risk just to win her heart or love him in return. The cousin has told him to whisper his wish to a dead person in order to for his request be absolutely granted. It happens that the one he whispered into is a witch. From that time, the spirit of the dead starts haunting him and his best friend Oprah (Angelica Panganiban) whom he seeks help to solve the mystery behind it. As they travel and experience the goose bumping situation, the old feeling has revived.

English TOPIC: Present Perfect

Present Perfect tense is our topic this week in English 5. I have introduced some examples vividly to my students for further understanding.

We use the Present Perfect to say that an action happened at an unspecified time before now. The exact time is not important. You CANNOT use the Present Perfect with specific time expressions such as: yesterday, one year ago, last week, when I was a child, when I lived in Japan, at that moment, that day, one day, etc. We CAN use the Present Perfect with unspecific expressions such as: ever, never, once, many times, several times, before, so far, already, yet, etc.

Example:

I have seen that movie twenty times.

TOPIC 1 Experience
You can use the Present Perfect to describe your experience. It is like saying, "I have the experience of..." You can also use this tense to say that you have never had a certain experience. The Present Perfect is NOT used to describe a specific event.
I have been to France.
This sentence means that you have had the experience of being in France. Maybe you have been there once, or several times.
I have been to France three times.
You can add the number of times at the end of the sentence.
TOPIC 2 Change Over Time
We often use the Present Perfect to talk about change that has happened over a period of time.
Examples:
You have grown since the last time I saw you.
The government has become more interested in arts education.
Japanese has become one of the most popular courses at the university since the Asian studies program was established.
My English has really improved since I moved to Australia.
TOPIC 3 Accomplishments
We often use the Present Perfect to list the accomplishments of individuals and humanity. You cannot mention a specific time.
Examples:
Man has walked on the Moon.
Our son has learned how to read.
Doctors have cured many deadly diseases.
Scientists have split the atom.
TOPIC 4 An Uncompleted Action You Are Expecting
We often use the Present Perfect to say that an action which we expected has not happened. Using the Present Perfect suggests that we are still waiting for the action to happen.
Examples:
James has not finished his homework yet.
Susan hasn't mastered Japanese, but she can communicate.
Bill has still not arrived.
The rain hasn't stopped.
TOPIC 5 Multiple Actions at Different Times
We also use the Present Perfect to talk about several different actions which have occurred in the past at different times. Present Perfect suggests the process is not complete and more actions are possible.
Examples:
The army has attacked that city five times.
I have had four quizzes and five tests so far this semester.
We have had many major problems while working on this project.
She has talked to several specialists about her problem, but nobody knows why she is sick.

It is a love triangle story of Jane, Alfa and Laras. Alfa is a popular singer who is idolized by a lot of women. This guy loves Laras, a very simple woman and has a very simple heart. There's another woman named Jane who has everything (well-to-do) but lack of attention from someone she loves the most. Jane likes Alfa very much.

The scene has started with annoyance of Jane to Alfa by disturbing him wherever places he may go. Alfa has been irritated by Jane's ill-mannered way of treating him. One time, Laras visited Alfa in the apartment. Accidentally, she had seen the two of them and found out that Jane has stayed overnight in Alfa's apartment unit. She felt jealousy without knowing the real reason.

Until one day, the doctor has found out that Jane is sick. Laras and Jane have been friends after the Jane's uncle explained everything about jane's condition.Many things happened that could attract the viewers to think and feel something according to the flow of the story. Who are meant for each other? That was my question while watching this movie. Laras has tried to give way even she hurts much.

At the end of the story, Jane has been saved from her dying condition through the help of friend's and relative's prayers. She has decided to go to UK with her uncle and has asked Alfa and Laras to get married soon.

I like the lyrics of the song very much. The content sounds romantic and catching as I describe it. Last two days, I watched the movie with this title. Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes played the main roles. The story revolves in the Igorota who has received million inheritance or an heiress of the affluent family based in Manila. She has been requested to visit the said city for business arrangement with the family attorney. Simultaneously, Dingdong has consequently experienced the opposite situation of Marian. His enjoyment as well-to-do bachelor has ended when his father was convicted due to graft and corruption. Their way has crossed when the driver accidentally brought him to the old house where he stayed before. Their love story began when the jobless Dingdong has been hired by Marian as her private business manager. Many funny things happened as they're on their way of getting to know each other. Isabel Oli who plays Dingdong's girlfriend has cheated him when he was run out of the fame and money. His friend has betrayed him also. In a real life, it happens. When you're down and not in the circle of elite people anymore, everything is suddenly changed. Everyone leaves you except the real people who love you very much.

Hmmmmmm...Before I start commenting about the movie, I just wanna let the world know that I am happy for granting my wishes last birthday celebration of mine. I have faced several hindrances but I have defeated all of those because of the trust endowment for our Almighty God.

Going back to the movie, I love the story. It depicts love towards siblings and how to stick together when problems arise and laugh in times of happiness. This drama-comedy movie tells the story of split sisters who were left by their parents to look for a greener pasture abroad. Both of them grew up in their grandmother's care. Many nice settings and scenes are prepared by the Star cinema to entertain the viewers.

I've never met him in person but I am looking forward for the proper time to have duet with him. 3 years ago, Christian Bautista and I had duet when he had his mall concert in Jakarta, Indonesia. Mohon Maaf Lahir dan Batin (Forgive my physical and emotional wrongdoings) is a widely used statement uttering during the Lebaran, a necessary event for Muslim people to contemplate the shortcomings or sins they have committed for the whole year. It is traditionally done by fasting as one way of showing sincerity to be renewed. As I observed, many Jakarta people go outside the city to relax. The holiday is declared by the government good for two weeks. If Christian people have Christmas holiday, Muslim people have Lebaran where they receive THR or bonus. Some of them visit their families back to their hometown to commemorate and feel the essence of the event, a reunion to be called.

IDOL: New Teleserye to watch

Wow! I have watched recently the trailer of IDOL starred by Sarah Geronimo, Sam Milby and Coco Martin. It was very nice to see the character portrayal of the aforementioned characters. At last, the taste of the viewers will obviously turn to a comedy-drama musical show. People are boring to view common concept of teleserye. Just accept the fact. In my own opinion, the Tv program which is scheduled to be launched tonight will probably catch the attention of the Filipino viewers because of the styles brought to the public. I am excited to download every scenes and take note, the casts will sing some of our favourite songs. Watch this to believe!

What a great movie! It is a sequel or third installment of twilight saga and new moon. It's not just an ordinary story but an extra-ordinary one as I rate it. Another perfect portrayal led by Kristen (Bella), Robert (Edward)and Taylor (Jacob). To tell you the truth, I was depressingly downloaded the pdf files of the complete collection of the books written by the versatile author Stephenie Meyer. For destructive critics without atonement but to ruin one's enthusiasm about the film, they may be cynical. But for me, this is one of my greatest pick for movie of all times - fond to remember even the time passes by.

At first, the scenes have driven me crazy making me feel overexcited until the first part appeared on the screen. It was really fantastic seeing the main characters in a romantic settings - typical forest themed. What makes the film different is that the impact of movie screwballs of romance, determination, unity, a little bit hilarious style and respect. I like the part where Jacob has ignited over quivered Bella while tracking the newborn vampires. Jacob and Edward confronted and had very serious conversation about their feelings towards Bella, a bizarre love triangle as I call it.
I don't want to prolong my movie description. See it yourself then.

But before I end, I have a confession to make. I went to a movie house which is usually open at 11.30 am but surprisingly, at only 10:00 am, the place was filled with moviegoers (majority of young people) in a very long queue just to have the premiere Twilight Eclipse ticket or advanced reservations. As the gate opened, they ran swiftly without minding the bad output it brings. Thank God, nobody got hurt in a stampede.

Inauguration of Newly-Elected President Noy Aquino: Good sign of Changes

AS I've witnessed the inauguration of Pres. Aquino, I got emotional with serious prayers uttered that in the future, our country would attain the same economic status as what the other leading Asian countries are enjoying nowadays. Although it's difficult to achieve as what people have thought of, many supporters are optimistic towards this goal in full swing with the deserving Cabinet Members.

It's acclaimed to be the VICTORY of Filipino people after the administration of his predecessor Mrs. Arroyo endorsed the Key of responsibility to lead the LAND OF THE ORIENT PEARL.

Millions of spectators and supporters came in yellow color coding (shirt, ribbon, etc) to show their brimming love and respect to the newly proclaimed President of the Republic of the Philippines.Some had flown overseas and traveled far distance just to attend the historical event despite of drizzle or little rain shower and hotness. One thing more, according to my reliable source, the event has deliberately graced by the coil of highly respectful representatives from Japan, China, Malaysia,India, USA, etc as I recall the list. Our humble President and Vice President were in Barong Tagalog showing the patriotic attitude in words and in deeds.

The aforementioned event had started with the traditional entourage where the successor and predecessor are in the same government vehicle bringing them to the Quirino Grandstand as the venue of Inauguration. The PGF had given their last salutes to GMA as the end of her Era. By then, Jim Paredes introduced the International singing sensation Charice Pempengco to sing the Lupang Hinirang(National Anthem. The ecumenical invocation as I have seen touched me to the uttermost because prayers were delivered by representatives from Catholic Church, Islam and Protestant. It's a sign of unity and hope, isn't it? Rendition of BAYAN KO (My Country) and SABIHIN MONG IKAW AY PILIPINO (Just Tell that you are a Filipino) followed heavenly sung by multi-awarded international choral group, Philippine Madrigal Singers.APO HIKING SOCIETY joyfully entertained the audience with their newly composed song entitled MINAMAHAL KONG PILIPINAS (My BELOVED PHILIPPINES). Christian Bautista, the Asian Heartthrob singer pacified the place with his own rendition of YOU RAISE ME UP. Ogie and Regine sang the original composition of the singer-composer OGIE, SI NOYNOY and HINDI KA NAG-IISA (You are not alone) respectively. Before the reading of proclamation, group of singers composed of Gary V, Jed Madela, Nina, Regine, Jim P., Noel C and many others (Sorry if I don't recognize the others due to blurred live streaming)lively serenaded the people with the Inaugural Song of NoyNoy, BAGONG PILIPINAS The New Philippines) which composed by combined powers of Ogie and Noel C. And one thing I remember which was the last part I've watched was the reading of proclamation led by the Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile announcing the Canvass of votes casted last May 10 election.

By the way, people all over the world Filipino or aliens are expecting a tremendous or huge economic progress as what we have been longing for over a decade.Throw the destructive forces in the bin and walk hand in hand for the betterment of the Philippines in the future. Whoever will read my article, you should start contemplating what factors you should contribute to our current Administration.

If you are looking for romantic ambiance then Pangandaran is a proper place to indulge. I've been there with friends who love to travel anywhere bringing their professional cameras. The time we departed from Blok M, Jakarta, I thought of something that could make me unwind escaping the previous stressful jobs related to school stuff. Time to relax as I called it. I didn't have any idea what would be the place look like. What had lingered in my mind was a beautiful sunrise and sunset because my friends kept on mentioning the word BEACH. After a long journey for about 20 hours due to many stop-overs, we finally stepped on the target area. It was amazing! Other friends yelled as a sign of happiness as I'd magnified on their faces.

After Math and Science Fair, Musical concert was held last May 7, 2010 at Sintanada Music School . It was participated in by more than a hundred of students from Primary 1 to Primary 5. The musical output was composed of Vocal Solo Performances, Vocal Trio Performances, Choral Performances, Musical Instruments Rendition. Most of the musical song pieces used are from the legendary movie known as The Sound of Music such as Climb every mountain, Edelweiss, etc. ; Indonesian Folk songs; Inspirational Songs of all times like Sorrunded by love, God help the outcast;Korean and Chinese songs like Arirang and Ai.

The event had started at 5.30 pm and ended at 7.30 pm. The guest had eaten afterwards with the buffet food service.

MATHSCI VILLE launched at LBIS

The first interactive game as part of Math and Science Annual fair in LBIS history known as MATHSCI VILLE was finally launched last May 1, 2010 which started at 9:00 am until 12 noon. Nowadays, children are enthusiast to explore and experience a simulation game that helps them recall the lessons undertaken in the classroom as mental exercises. The said game has procedures to follow and observe. It needs patience, cooperation and cleverness to accomplish the assigned tasks.

The event had started with the Orientation and a short program to formally open the affair. Students from the different levels performed the following: Action song called I'm a Little Seed for Primary 1, Animal story for Primary 2, Math Jingles for Primary 3 and Water Cycle Dance for Primary 4. Oath taking for the PTC officers also held.

Registered participants automatically received MathSci Ville (MV) Cash of 10 000 as the beginning fund or cash. Students had to undergo consequences to give them extra challenge in earning more. This could be tested by visiting the different kinds of booth where they have to spend and earn cash. The booths they had visited are Booth 1 -Wonders of Experiments of P5 consisting of students' projects like Metal Loop, Treasure Hunt (Magnet), Finding the name of the countries (using simple circuit connection); Booth 2 - Taste and Shape Activities for P1, Booth 3 - Simple Circuit and Mixing, Booth 4 - Fractions and Graph Activities with a Power point presentations, Booth 5 - Mind lab Challenging games, Booth 6 - Math Wizard Games related to Decimal, Symmetry, General Questions and Time. The mentioned booths were managed and facilitated by the students themselves with the guidance of the teachers. Hanah bank staff handled Booth 7 which is the Bank, a place where they deposited the money earned and received Free Vouchers to be claimed at Booth 8 -Gift Counter and could be used at Booth 9 -Smart board educational games.

The bank and gifts counter booths closed by 12 noon due to longer queues. Different facial reactions manifested on the students' faces. Some of them requested to have more of this in the future because it was really exciting. Their minds had been moulded with the real scenarios happened in their daily lives teaching them how to be flexible if needs arise.

Lilin Bangsa International School in cooperation with Mind Lab Kelapa Gading held a parental session called “The morning break” last February 20, 2010.

Parents nowadays provide as much as possible the best nutrition for their offspring and the best education for their child’s bright future. Extra lessons and extra-curricular activities are packed up into the child’s schedule as investments for the child’s future. The main question is “Are those things can guarantee the success of the child?” That’s why this session was held to reveal the Secret Recipe of a Child’s Success.

Ms Dorothy Samuel, the school counselor of Lilin Bangsa International School brought up the four types of parenting styles. The first type which is authoritarian style is characterized by high expectations of compliance and conformity to parental rules and directions. The disadvantage for authoritarian parenting is the inconsistency of rules and directions that bring confusion to the children. It could be described as unfair and threatening. Many children raised by authoritarian parents live in a constant state of fear. They tend to display less self-confidence and are withdrawn socially. Some children rebel by openly defying their parents by leaving home at a younger age, partaking in drugs, alcohol, dating or marrying a partner whom they know their parents would disapprove of, and might be led to estranged relationship between them and their parents during adulthood.

The second type is permissive parenting. This style is typically characterized by a warm, loving relationship between parents and children but is flawed by low expectations of behavior. In other words, the permissive parents are usually afraid to make demands on the children rather than to hold them to any standard. This type of parents simply wants the children to like them at the end of the day by granting the children’s requests. Children who raised by overly permissive parents tend to suffer from a lack of focus, immaturity and emotional regulation problem. The children cannot control their impulses and never accept the responsibility for their own actions. In times of trouble, the children will simply blame someone else even if it is their own fault. They live and remain close to where they grew up and still dependent.

Neglectful parenting is the third type of parenting styles. It is best described as a step beyond permissive parenting. The neglectful parents may provide food and shelter, but are generally uninvolved in the children's emotional life. Good examples of this are parents who never ask their children’s condition about their day, their friends, or their education. The neglected children may have serious issues going on outside the home,but the neglectful parents are never aware of them until something potentially tragic occurs. Children will grow up with a feeling of resentment against their parents for being neglectful and often lead to estrangement.

The last type of parenting styles and definitely considered an ideal one, is authoritative parenting. Parents hold high expectations of the children's behavior. Parental rules and directions imposed on the children are fair and expressed clearly. The authoritative parents teach the children about cause and effect, decision-making and self-sufficiency. Authoritative parents rear the children to become successful, articulate, happy with themselves, and generous to others. This results to being liked and respected by their peers and allows them to be well-rounded adults.

Ms Dorothy reminded the parents to be actively involved to their children’s needs. What they need most is the love from their parents contributing to their success in the future. Meanwhile, Ms Grace from Mind Lab Kelapa Gading continued the discussion by bringing up another breath-taking issue that most parents naturally neglect: the Emotional Intelligence. Ms Grace pointed that Emotional matters hold more than 2/3 of a children’s character. To make sure of the children’s success, parents should also be aware of their children’s emotional problems though emotional intelligence can be trained. One of the most effective ways to train the children’s emotional intelligence is for parents to spend their quality time to play with their children. Ms Grace then invited the audience to experience the board games brought by Mind Lab Kelapa Gading, called “The Corridor”. It is a 2-player board game in which each player is able to choose whether he’d like to move one square at a time or to block his opponent to reach his own side. The audience shared happiness and laughter when they tried out the games. All of them realized that to be a winner one should deal with his/ her own emotional barriers and move on to think objectively toward success.

Many parents believe that music can bring good impact to their children’s mind and character that’s why they encourage their children to go to some music schools to learn how to play musical instruments. Music schools nowadays have scattered around the neighborhood area. The question now is which school is suitable for the children. This time in the music corner, I will give you some tips in choosing the good music school for your children.

Think high.

Don’t get satisfied by the regular instead hit for the highest. This is always the motto every parent should have in mind before sending their children to a music school. Some parents mentioned that they just need their children to know a little bit of music and they don’t want their children to be musicians either. That is wrong concept! When it comes to learning, they need a complete learning from something not just half or a little bit of it. Few skills cannot benefit the children. On the contrary, it would be a waste of money.

Curriculum.

You must ask the school about the curriculum they are using. Ask if they have some technical exercises known as “ETUDE”. This is the most boring part of music learning, yet the most important thing. Ask for the grade and levels.

Pop or classical.

Never trust a pop music school. Pop music can be learned only after a child learned a few basic things in classical. Classical music is not always boring and pop music is not always fun. Teachers.

The first LBIS Parent Association finally organized

Lilin Bangsa International School has formally launched the LBIS Parent Association on Saturday, March 20, 2010. This organization is formed with the belief that parents and school must work hand in hand in order to give maximum benefit of quality education to the students.

The meeting was attended by parents, who represented their children from different grade levels. It was facilitated by Ms. Georgie Floro, who gave the frameworks to the parents needed for a legal school-parent organization to operate.

The meeting was started with a building a school game emphasizing teamwork. Through this, the parents were fully aware that each of them holds an important role in the success of the game which is to build the imaginary school.

After the game, Ms. Georgie gave a short presentation about the main purpose of the organization and its importance for the school towards the betterment of the students. After the presentation, the voting for the board of directors was conducted. Ms. Jeanny Sugiharto was chosen to be the Chairman. Ms. Elly Nizar was voted as the Vice Chairman. Ms. Fransisca Yulia was voted as the Secretary and Ms. Lenty Datuoey as the Treasurer.

There were three Special Committees formed in the LBIS Parent Association. The first one was the Education Committee, with Ms. Elly Nizar as the Chairman and Ms. Jenny Ellim together with Ms. Helen R. Salim as the members. The second committee was the Membership Committee, with Ms. Fransisca Yulia as the Chairman and Ms. Akiauw and Ms. Yenny Yosputra as the members. The third committee was the Grievance Committee, with Mr. Yosputra Surya as the Chairman and Mr. Tandiono along with Ms. Fairuz as the members.

The vision and mission of the LBIS Parent Association were also formulated during the meeting. Through the discussion, it was decided that the vision of the association is to be a reliable association in developing harmonious relationship between parents and the school for the benefit of the students. The mission of the Parent Association is to maximize the parents’ support for the school in providing quality education for the students.

The LBIS Parent Association has five main objectives. The first objective is to encourage parents’ involvement in school’s programs in relation to their children’s achievements. The second one is to enhance healthy communication between parents and the school. The third one is to settle amicably any issues that may arise between parents and the school. The fourth one is to enrich additional knowledge to both parents and children. The fifth objective is to encourage parent’s involvement in the association for the benefit of their children.

Many research studies show that parents’ involvement in education has significant impact to their children’s academic achievements, behaviors in the classroom, and attitudes toward school and education. Therefore, we hope that the LBIS Parent Association will truly maximize parents’ involvement in their children’s education. Through this Parents Association, we hope that all parents will be willing to join in and become active participants, because parents’ working together harmoniously with the school is what makes it possible to give the best quality education and positive impact to the students. Congratulations and success for the foundation of LBIS Parent Association!
